Bible 101: The Teaser

We are launching our first summer series and here is our teaser. Over the next 8 weeks we will be diving into the Bible and all of the truth, transformation, and knowledge it has in store for us. We hope you will join!

Okay, so you’ve just met Jesus or maybe you have gone to church your whole life, perhaps you attended the Salt conference or just returned from a retreat…but something has sprung up in you {enter Holy Spirit} and you are THIRSTY. You know there has got to be more of God. You see people around you full and vibrant, loving Jesus and drinking in scripture and you want what they have!

So you dive into God’s word like it is living water…

But you come up with a mouth full of dry sand.

Your energy dissipates, your passion wanes, and you again turn to people, pastors, books about the bible, rather than drinking from the source yourself. And while all of these methods are beautiful ways to grow in faith, there is no substitute for getting face to face with Jesus and having the Holy Spirit illuminate for you the word of the living God.

Yes, one of the primary ways that God communicates with us is through His word.

But being told “Just read the bible!” is like pointing at a big pile of dirt and being told “Dig!” without being given a shovel!

If this is you at all, or if you have ever wondered “How in the world do I even navigate the Bible?” then girl, you’re in for a treat.

God has appointed this moment in time for you to meet with Him. He wants to meet you right where you are at. Just like the woman that Jesus met at the well in Samaria, you have a divine appointment with the living God.

Do you know He wants to speak to you?

Do you know that you in fact already hear His voice?

You may just not recognize it yet.

Like hearing your future best friend’s voice in a crowd… you just haven’t spent enough time playing and talking and dreaming and laughing and making memories to pick it out of all the noise. Don’t worry, your heart will become attuned to that still small voice of the One who loves you and created you, I promise. HE promised.

At the tail end of that Jeremiah 29:11 verse that many of you found scrawled in graduation cards is my favorite part of scripture:

“‘You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,’ declares the Lord.”

Absolutely beautiful.

As we start our first Live Salted series, over the next few weeks we are going to do a Bible crash-course, answering the questions:

  • What’s in the Bible?
  • What do you read?
  • How do you read it?
  • What do you do with it?
  • How do I hide it in my heart?

Our hope is by the end of summer, to have given you practical tools to dig a well, to draw near to the Living God, to learn to recognize His voice in your life, so that you don’t go thirsty…

And, in the words of Paul, “this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight.” The goal here is not simply knowledge. I know a lot of people who know a million Bible verses but they are arrogant and crusty and mean.

The goal here is love.

Not the squishy kind of love that the world believes is synonymous with “nice”, but the deep hearted, courageous, truth-filled choice of loving God above all else and running after Him as you become the one who he created- accomplishing the things he set before you to do (Eph 2:10) and living the fullness of life that He promises (John 10:10),

The goal is intimate knowledge of the living God and a heart being shaped to look more like Jesus’. And as you know His Word, your heart will begin to recognize His voice…

So… Let’s get to it!

Each Saturday morning we will have a new post on the blog, so mark your calendars, free your mornings, and make time for this. We encourage you to push yourself to read our posts every week so you can get the most out of the series- to help track this, download our Challenge Chart!

Until then, think about John 6:35. Write it down, pick it apart….. and get hungry.  A feast is coming.
